Green Tea Selection
Japan Sencha Fukujya
Sencha is an everday tea often described as having a brisk, dry or fresh, slightly
sweet taste. Fukujya Sencha is harvested in the province of Shizuoka which is near
Mount Fuji, one of the main growing areas of Japan. Japan Sencha GyokuroA high
grade Sencha which is often known as shadow tea. The bushes are shaded prior to plucking which
increases the chlorophyll and reduces the tannins. It has a slightly darker leaf but a
sweet aromatic full bodied flavour. One of Japans finest teas. Japan BanchaCoarser,
longer leaf, slightly dry but with a very pleasing taste. Bancha is known for being low in
caffeine. Japan Bancha HoujichaRoasted Bancha leaves. These aromatic brown
leaves produce a deep orange red infusion with a subtle golden tinge. The full bodied
flavour of the roasted leaves bring forth a nutty taste with almost mocha like notes.
Japan GenmaichaOnce again a Bancha but this time blended with roasted wholemeal rice.
The resulting infusion has an aromatic and roasted flavour all of its own. Another superb green
tea that's very low in caffeine and often referred to as Popcorn tea. Japan
KokeichaA speciality Japanese green tea prepared from the fine tea powder
used in the tea ceremony. Roughly translated, kokeicha means formed tea, and it is with great
care that the pine needle like shapes are produced from the original ground down tea powder.
The resulting infusion is a smooth light liquor with semi-sweet undertones. It glows from
the cup with a bright golden yellow hue. China MaojianOne of the most well known
of the China teas. Sourced from the Anhui Province of Eastern China this particular leaf is
plucked from high altitude tea gardens within the Province. The swirling mists, cold nights and
high altitude make this particular plant a hardy one which can withstand a fair amount of
rolling and firing. The resulting infusion is aromatic and has an almost chestnut like
sweetness. China Jasmine PearlsSpring harvested tips are carefully rolled into
pearls and stored until late June when there's an abundance of new Jasmine blossoms on the
trees. The pearls are then scented by hand using only the freshly picked Jasmine blossoms. For no
less than 5 days the sweet Jasmine is allowed to impart its unique scent upon the pearls. The
resulting infusion is wonderful to watch as the pearls slowly unfurl in warm water and shower
your senses with its intense floral notes.
